SDS Week (Self Directed Support) 13th to 17th of June

Thursday, May 19th, 2016

PenumbraThis is a national week promoting Self Directed Support across Scotland.  William Wright is the Recovery Practitioner for the West of Scotland in Penumbra.

I am looking to speak with, and work with local organisations who may have done or be doing work around self-directed support in West Lothian.  With SDS Week coming up next month this would be a perfect opportunity to do some co-productive work on SDS.  I have personally delivered SDS workshops, and ran SDS events with NHS, local authority, and other Third Sector organisations in Perth and Kinross.  Please see video link below on work Penumbra has done with other organisations around SDS:

If any organisation in West Lothian would be interested in working together with Penumbra during SDS Week, they are very welcome to contact me to explore what could be done – my telephone number etc. is below:

Carer videos from Carers Scotland

Thursday, May 12th, 2016

Carers Scotland has worked with carers to produce a series of simple videos about the practical and online support available to help you care and look after your own needs.

Each video features a carer talking about their own experiences, and the series covers topics including respite, online communities, getting started online and technology for health and care.

You can watch the whole series above – just click the icon in the top left hand corner of the video to bring up a menu listing all nine videos.

Volunteering at Bield

Wednesday, January 6th, 2016

Bield Housing & Care’s Volunteer Team is pleased, for the first time, to present a volunteer video. Supported by the service users, staff and volunteers at our Retirement Housing Development, Southfield Court in Dunbar, where the video was filmed.

Its aim is to highlight the importance and benefits of volunteering within Bield – both internally within the organisation and externally to partners and organisations that we work with and to highlight the importance of our volunteers and the support they give to Bield services, developments and most importantly the service users themselves.

As you will see, the video illustrates volunteering at its best and is crucial in Bield developing their volunteer network in line with the needs of our service users.

We were delighted to launch the video with the service users, staff and volunteers at Southfield Court on Wednesday 16 December and the Volunteer Team were pleased to have Graeme Russell – Director of Housing and Scott Robertson, Housing officer joining us at the event.

West Lothian volunteers speak about the benefits of helping others through volunteering work

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

Food Train VolunteerVolunteers Week 2015 is fast approaching and everyone in West Lothian is being urged to take a moment to consider if they can make a difference.

There are countless volunteering opportunities across the county for people of all walks of life and becoming a volunteer not only helps people of all ages and backgrounds, but provides a sense of achievement for those helping out.

The Courier met with some of the many dedicated volunteers who give their time to helping other people in the communities and asked what volunteering means to them.
