Young people in the 14 – 25 age group are encouraged, through the support of the Gateway’s Volunteer Development Officer, to participate in volunteering activity to assist themselves and their community.  Young volunteers participate in volunteering of their choice and achieve a Saltire Awards Certificate signed by Scotland’s First Minister at the successful completion of 200 hours volunteering.

Saltire Awards are the new Scottish awards designed to formally recognise the commitment and contribution of youth volunteering.  Saltire Awards replaces the Millennium Volunteering / MV Awards programme and is the Scottish Government’s central programme for recognising youth volunteering.
