‘You have been amazingly helpful and just listening and caring has been a great help and outlet for me.’ CoWL service user

Carers of West Lothian is a local charity offering a range of services developed to meet the needs of unpaid carers and disabled people in West Lothian.

We are well-established in West Lothian and have been supporting unpaid carers since 1990 but maybe what people are less aware of, is for the last 3 years, following a successful tender, we have been supporting disabled people.

We support disabled people with a physical and/or learning disability and through our support, aim to help every disabled person in West Lothian to live their lives the way they choose. By providing support, information and representation for disabled people and working with partners, we strive to ensure a better quality of life for the people we support.

Our support can include:

  • One to one emotional support – face to face, telephone and online
  • Counselling
  • Social groups and events
  • Peer support groups
  • Training opportunities and workshops
  • Benefits advice and Power of Attorney clinic/Legal advice
  • Information on community support services
  • Signposting and referrals to other services
  • Opportunities to have a say on local services and information on rights
  • Planning for emergencies

During the current pandemic, we are providing all our support via telephone and online.  Our groups and clinics are being run on zoom and teams.

‘The group is a lifeline for me as it lets me meet people like myself and I can grow my confidence in a safe setting. I feel valued and that my voice is heard.’ CoWL service user

Further information about our service can be found on our website or by getting in touch on 01506 448 000 or office@carers-westlothian.com

We accept self-referrals and referrals from services.

‘If it had not been for you, I would not be where I am with the support I now have.  You really helped me.’ CoWL service user

Lastly, we wanted to highlight that Scottish Learning Disability Week 2021 is running 10-16 May.  This year’s theme is relationships, so we are celebrating by having an online get together on Saturday 15th as Saturday is all about socialising! Our social groups are a great way to meet people and build friendships.  Details of all our groups can be found here.
