Organisations are very welcome to join us at the Gateway for a fantastic learning session on the Engaging Communities Toolkit. The event takes place on Wednesday 26th March from 10am to 12pm.
The Engaging Communities Toolkit aims to support and promote effective community engagement practice in West Lothian. Based on the Toolkit, this interactive training session has been designed to help individuals and groups develop a better understanding of community engagement and give them the skills and tools to undertake it effectively. The training will cover what community engagement is, why it is important, and how to plan and carry it out using a range of tools and methods.
This event is for anyone that is currently engaging with people or looking to improve their communication engagement knowledge.
What – Community Engagement Toolkit Training
Where – Gateway, Bathgate
When – Wed 26th March 10am – 12pm
By improving and embedding community engagement practice across the partnership we can ensure that our communities are genuinely engaged and empowered and can therefore be involved in decisions that affect their lives. By achieving a common understanding of community engagement at all levels of the partnership, coordinating and consolidating community engagement activity, and ensuring that staff and community members have the right tools to undertake engagement that is appropriate and fit for purpose, we can help to achieve active and empowered communities. We want to achieve better quality engagement that is effective and influential and informs decisions and service provision. Improving community engagement, and the structures, processes and practices that help deliver it will ultimately result in improved outcomes for our communities.

This session will be informative, interactive and enable participants to think about engagement in the context of their own work, helping to increase knowledge, skills and the quality of engagement in West Lothian.
Meaningful and effective community engagement activity will ensure that groups represent their communities, and consider the needs of communities. This is really important when it comes to applying for funding, where demonstrating and evidencing a process of engagement is required.
