SUMMARY:Free Cyber Resilience training for the Third Sector
DESCRIPTION:Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian is delivering FREE cyber resilience training for third sector groups and organisations across West Lothian. You only need to attend one session\, which will take around one hour. Our first two sessions (Nov/Dec) will be delivered via Zoom\, but we hope to deliver the third session in January at our office in Bathgate\, this will be dependent on Covid restrictions. \n\nMonday 29th November\, 10am – 11am\nWednesday 8th December\, 2pm – 3pm\nFriday 14th January\, 10am – 11am (Potentially in our office dependant on Covid restrictions)\n\nWe have varied the times of these sessions in order to help as many people attend as possible. The sessions are open to anyone in your group or organisation who would benefit\, including staff members\, Board or Committee members\, and volunteers. \nThe training\, delivered by our staff\, is designed to be accessible to everyone\, and not incredibly technical\, but focused instead on human behaviour and what people can do. Each one-hour session will cover: \n\npassword security\nscam and phishing emails – how to spot and what to do\ndevice security\n\nMaking these small changes can have a big difference on your group’s online security. Our team will help you learn the cyber resilient behaviours and the tools you need to protect your group. \nAll materials from the training will also be emailed to you. \nTo book your place\, please visit the Eventbrite page and select the time and date that suits you. \nYou will receive an email closer to the time with further details and instruction to join. \nAlternatively\, if you have any issues booking\, or accessing the training on the day\, please contact us via email: vsg@vsgwl.org

SUMMARY:Mobile vaccination drop-in unit (Friday)
DESCRIPTION:NHS Lothian’s mobile drop-in unit is coming to West Lothian this week (Friday 9th July and Saturday 10th July) to make it easier for people working in retail\, hospitality or those who are out and about to get their vaccine. \nNHS Lothian has teamed up with Scottish Ambulance Service\, which operates the drop-in unit\, to provide injections to all adults over the age of 18. It carries Moderna and Astra Zeneca vaccines only so will not be able to provide second doses of Pfizer. \nOn Friday (9th July) and Saturday (10th July) – 11am until 7pm – the drop-in unit will be parked at: \nThe car park located outside Kidzeco (the one with the soft play) next to The Centre & Primark\, Livingston.  If you are driving from Asda along the Almondvale Boulevard\, it’s the first left immediately after the first set of traffic lights. The postcode for the Car Park is EH54 6NB. \nIf you are shopping or working at The Centre\, the drop-in unit can be accessed on foot via the exit next to The Royal Bank of Scotland/B&M or via the Mall Cafe/Vision Express exit. There is parking at The Centre.   Free parking is also available directly across the road at The Terrace car park. \nAnyone over the age of 18\, who have not yet had their first dose – for whatever reason – can attend a drop-in clinic without an appointment\, while those who are waiting for their second dose can turn up as long as they received their first injection of the COVID-19 vaccine at least eight weeks before.\nhttps://www.nhslothian.scot/Coronavirus/Vaccine/Pages/Drop-in-Clinics.aspx

SUMMARY:Volunteers Week - A time to say ‘Thank You’ to the UK’s Volunteers
DESCRIPTION:This Volunteers’ Week we are encouraging everyone to take the time to say Thank You to all the UK’s volunteers. During an exceptionally difficult year\, people from all corners of the UK have taken the time to volunteer and make a huge difference to people and their communities – just as they do every year. \n\n\n\n\nVolunteers are always active at the heart of every UK community. They are behind many of the services we all rely on. Some have been volunteering online from home\, others in person with a local charity or organisation. Their crucial efforts have not stopped\, despite the uncertain times we find ourselves in\, and will continue as an important part of the nation’s recovery. \nThat is why on this 37th annual Volunteers’ Week it’s time to say\, ‘Thank You Volunteers!’ We want to recognise all of those who have continued delivering vital work as volunteers over the past 12 months but also all those who usually volunteer but have not been able to because of the pandemic.

SUMMARY:Whitburn Working Together for Wellbeing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:West Lothian Community Planning Partnership (CPP) has agreed to prioritise type 2 diabetes prevention through a pilot project in Whitburn. \nThis workshop brings together the Whitburn community\, professionals and decision makers to develop a common understanding of type 2 diabetes. There are many factors that contribute to the risk of developing type 2 diabetes\, some that we cannot influence such as genetic and inherited factors and some that we may have a bit more control over\, like body weight and activity levels. Having a higher body weight and body mass index (BMI) can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. We know that other factors ranging from breastfeeding to deprivation are also closely linked to the risk of both obesity and type 2 diabetes. \nIn this first workshop we will work together to map the “whole system” that contributes to obesity within a local context. This will later allow us to identify the greatest opportunities for change. The workshop will be critical to all local efforts to create a community where we eat well\, have a healthy weight and are physically active.
