This is a fantastic time to join the board as we are in the process of developing and rolling out a new vision and five year strategy for the charity. In line with this we have taken the opportunity to review our governance needs and now wish to increase the size of our board as well as bringing in people with a range of skill sets and experiences to help us achieve our new enhanced mission.
We are looking for up to eight motivated and committed individuals who share the charity’s values of empathy, respect, integrity and care. We are keen to encourage applications from all sections of society especially from people who are currently under represented on the board: disabled people, men, young people (18-30), BAME, and people with lived experience of the types of services that we provide. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals who bring experience or a background in one or more of the following areas: social work, homelessness, housing support, health, social care, working with charities and/or the public sector, fundraising, marketing, people with lived experience of the fields in which we operate: mental health, trauma, disadvantage, homelessness, people with experience of the care system, those with knowledge of the communities in which we operate in East Central Scotland namely Edinburgh, Forth Valley and Fife. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal online interview (more than a chat, less than a formal interview) with a board sub-committee and the CEO on 22nd or 23rd March 4-7pm. NHS Lothian is looking for volunteers who can commitment of approx. once a week for six months to support patients, visitors and staff at St john's Hospital. We have vacancies Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and hope volunteers can attend for 2 or more hours a week. We are looking for friendly people to welcome patients and visitors to the hospital as guides and to support our wellbeing lounge.
Guides are based in the main reception area and other entrances to greet patients and visitors and help them to find the part of the hospital they need either by giving directions or accompanying them. The guides also support safe hospital visits by encouraging social distancing, use of hand gel and masks. This role is really important to helping all visitors, especially those who are new to the site or are a little nervous to have a positive experience at the hospital. The Wellbeing Lounge volunteers help to create a calm, relaxing and friendly space for staff to come and spend time during their breaks, by offering refreshments, and making conversation and offering a listening ear. The Wellbeing Lounge has been established to provide support to staff who are working particularly hard in these challenging times as both a thank you and also a place to restore physical and mental energy. Since lockdown began The Larder Catalyst Kitchen aimed to deliver 2,000 meals per week to those in need throughout West Lothian. Fast forward a few weeks The Larder has exceeded that target and is now delivering 2,500 meals per week to the local community in need. We know that meals are more than just food, meal time can bring families together or bring a sense of joy after a hard day and we have provided that over 15,000 times now since we started the project. The Larder are looking for volunteer drivers that can help deliver our food parcels to our customers in a safe and friendly manner and ensure that no one is left behind.
