The Scottish Ambulance Service are in the early stages of creating a mental health strategy to cover both staff and patients.
We need to know what people want from us. Right now, in a crisis situation people will call us, or NHS 24 and the police will call us. Our crews will help someone deal with the initial emergency, but then what? We cannot release our duty of care – it can only be transferred. So usually we take people to A&E or the police get involved. Neither is a great option for the person needing support. So we need to know what to do, and we are asking anyone with a vested interest to tell us what our response should be – pathways etc.
There is a semi-formal meeting planned on July 22nd to begin work.
