Polbeth Community HUB SCIO is based within one of West Lothian’s most deprived areas of deprivation as highlighted within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 2016. The HUB’s vision is to eradicate poverty within the village and assist individuals in reaching their full potential, it was created to” support the local community to bring about social change and empower local citizens to improve the quality of life within the local area”. The HUB’s objects include the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities and the advancement of rural regeneration and development of the community.
Currently within the HUB facility over 33 activities/services are delivered which have been developed with the local community based on their needs and wants. These include the Community Fridge that provides access to low cost/free food to our Yoga and dancing classes. The range of groups support many different types of individuals within our community, from birth through to old age, and has allowed the HUB to create a family friendly, vibrant and fun environment for the full community to get involved.
We continue to focus our work on a life stages approach: ensuring every child within the village is ready to start a school day from having basic social skills, to encouraging older people who experience social isolation and food poverty to get involved with the HUB, to come in and chat, have a bowl of soup or attend some of our groups/classes.
