The Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) is a partnership of colleges & universities in Scotland whose aim is to support adults who want to find routes into higher education. They may think that they can’t get to university because they don’t have the school qualifications necessary. They may feel that they are too old or that it’s just not for them. Often what they don’t realise is that they will have built up a range of skills from previous work, or from bringing up a family, and these may be the exact skills that universities are looking for – being able to communicate with others, or work in teams and solve problems. A SWAP programme at college develops these skills and prepares them to succeed in Higher Education.
