West Lothian Youth Action Project

Youth Worker – Specialising in Drug & Alcohol Support Services (x 2 posts)

Full time – 36 hours per week

Salary £27,916

West Lothian Youth Action Project (WLYAP) is an established West Lothian wide, Youth and Community based third sector organisation, with a reputation for positively engaging young people aged 10 -25 years, who are isolated from mainstream youth services. Our methods of approach are varied to maximise engagement. We recognise that every young person and family situation is unique to them, therefore one box does not fit all. These different approaches are evident through our provision of detached youth work, early intervention, groupwork programmes, befriending, practical and life skills training, music tuition, cooking workshops and community based environmental opportunities.

As part of a collaborative with West Lothian Drug & Alcohol Service and Circle, we are seeking to recruit two full time Youth Worker posts with a specific remit to provide an innovative approach to addressing the issue of substance use with young people and their families.

This will be a full – time post on an initial fixed term 3-year contract (potential for 5 years).

These specialist Youth Workers will work alongside our partners in the Collaborative, delivering a responsive service including 1-1 interventions, groupwork programmes, Early Intervention and Prevention sessions in education and residential establishments across West Lothian. An innovative approach, utilising a wide range of creative skills is required for these posts. The work will primarily be focused with young people; however, the Whole Family Approach is embedded in our partnership ethos.

The Youth Workers will work in a variety of settings as part of the Collaborative and will work alongside the Youth Action Project staff team. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
