Foundation Scotland has announced a fast-tracked £12 million Response Fund aimed at supporting organisations serving Scotland’s most vulnerable communities. This initiative responds to the escalating pressures faced by charities and community groups, many of which are experiencing increased demand for services amidst rising operational costs and reduced capacities.
The fund is designed to provide immediate relief and bolster long-term capacity building. It includes a cost-of-living adjustment for organisations funded in the past year, helping them manage soaring expenses such as utilities, staffing, and National Insurance contributions. Additionally, organisations that received funding last autumn but couldn’t anticipate the sudden increase in employer National Insurance costs will receive supplementary payments. Together, these measures account for approximately £650,000 of the total fund.
In a collaborative effort, Foundation Scotland is contributing £500,000 to the Corra Foundation’s Boost programme. This small grants fund supports local community organisations assisting children and families most affected by poverty. Grants ranging from £500 to £3,000 will be distributed, with the initiative delivered in partnership with the STV Children’s Appeal and Comic Relief.
Recognising the critical role of advice services during the cost-of-living crisis, the fund also allocates support to all of Scotland’s Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB). These funds aim to assist with staffing and operational costs, enabling CABs to continue providing essential guidance on energy bills, benefits, debt, housing, and other urgent issues.
This comprehensive funding package underscores Foundation Scotland’s commitment to empowering communities and ensuring that support reaches those who need it most during these challenging times.
