Challenge Poverty Week is Scotland’s annual week of action to raise awareness of the injustice of poverty, highlight the urgent need for change, and show the ways we can all work together to tackle it.

This year, from Monday 6 to Sunday 12 October 2025, Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian (VSGWL) will be joining partners across Scotland to shine a spotlight on local action, share resources, and amplify the voices of people with lived experience.

Why it matters

Poverty affects families, individuals, and communities across West Lothian every day. Challenge Poverty Week gives us the chance to break down stigma, build understanding, and showcase positive steps being taken by local groups, charities, and community organisations. It’s also an opportunity to call for long-term solutions that make life fairer for everyone.

This year West Lothian has have a range of events happening  to provide information and support across a range of topics.

How you can get involved

  • Host an event or activity – such as a drop-in session, community conversation, skills workshop or awareness campaign.

  • Share stories and resources – highlight the work of your group or the difference local support makes.

  • Promote the campaign online – use hashtags #ChallengePoverty and #CPW25 to join the national conversation.

  • Work in partnership – connect with other organisations to strengthen our collective impact.

Challenge Poverty Week, Monday, October 6, to Sunday, October 12, 2025,  coordinated by the Poverty Alliance, is a Scotland-wide campaign that challenges the stigma and discrimination often associated with poverty, and encourages a unified voice against the injustice of poverty. The week provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and politicians to raise their voices and take collective action against poverty. Participants include charities, local councils, schools, and faith groups.
