West Lothian 50+ Network today hosted its annual Volunteers Lunch at Bathgate Golf Club, bringing together volunteers from across West Lothian to recognise and thank those who sit at the heart of the organisation.
The lunch is a small gesture, but an important one. It provides a clear and public opportunity for the Network to acknowledge the commitment, time and care given by its volunteers, without whom the organisation simply could not operate.
Speaking at the event, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Sue Bedford-Visser, reflected honestly on the year past. Financial pressures across the third sector remain significant, and demand for services continues to grow as West Lothian’s population ages and the need for connection and purpose increases. In these circumstances, many organisations have been forced to scale back.
West Lothian 50+ Network chose a different path. Volunteers, members and leaders stepped forward. They fundraised more, reached new people, launched additional groups and continued to turn up week after week. That collective effort is why the Network remains active, resilient and growing, and why it continues to play a meaningful role within the wider community.
The event was attended by 64 of the Network’s 100 volunteers. Together, they have contributed more than 16,000 hours of volunteering over the past year, a conservative figure that does not fully capture the many hours that go unrecorded. That time has translated directly into improved wellbeing, confidence, learning and social connection for more than 700 members across West Lothian.
The Network also extended its thanks to Home Instead Charities for their generous grant, which helped make the Volunteers Lunch possible.
West Lothian 50+ Network extends its sincere thanks to every volunteer, past and present. Your commitment is recognised, valued and deeply appreciated, and it continues to make a tangible difference to people and communities across West Lothian.
