Today Marks First Ever UK-wide Power of Attorney Day

Today marks the first ever UK-wide Power of Attorney Day, an initiative led by Carers Scotland in partnership with Standard Life. The campaign aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of powers of attorney, while encouraging more people to put one in place.

A Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows an individual to appoint someone they trust to make decisions on their behalf. This can help ensure that a person’s wishes are respected if they become unable to make decisions themselves.

For carers, having a Power of Attorney in place can provide reassurance and clarity, helping to avoid stressful decision-making during emergency or unexpected situations.

In Scotland, anyone aged 16 or over can set up a Power of Attorney. It must be arranged while the individual still has the mental capacity to make their own decisions.
