Support is available for families across West Lothian to help them understand and access child maintenance, following partnership work between West Lothian Council’s Anti-Poverty Service and Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) West Lothian.

Child maintenance plays a vital role in ensuring children receive the financial support they are entitled to from both parents. It is also recognised as an important factor in reducing child poverty and supporting children’s rights to an adequate standard of living.

Access to the right advice and guidance can help parents and carers understand their responsibilities, navigate the system, and put appropriate arrangements in place.

CAB West Lothian provides free, confidential and impartial support, including:

  • information on child maintenance rights and responsibilities
  • support to access and understand the Child Maintenance Service
  • help to explore and agree suitable arrangements
  • assistance where there are challenges with existing arrangements

Organisations are encouraged to share this information across their networks and signpost families who may benefit from support.
