Organisations across Scotland that work with vulnerable groups are being encouraged to take advantage of a free upcoming training opportunity delivered by Disclosure Scotland.

The PVG Duty to Refer Training Webinar will take place online via Microsoft Teams on Thursday 4 June 2026 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, offering practical guidance for those involved in safeguarding responsibilities.

Understanding Your Legal Responsibilities

This interactive session is designed for organisations that use the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme, including:

  • Countersignatories
  • HR professionals
  • Managers involved in disciplinary processes
  • Staff responsible for safeguarding and compliance

The webinar aims to provide a clear, accessible overview of an employer’s legal duty to make referrals under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Act 2007, helping organisations better understand when and how to act.

What the Webinar Will Cover

Participants will gain insight into key aspects of the duty to refer process, including:

  • PVG duty to refer obligations and how they contribute to protecting vulnerable people and supporting a safer Scotland
  • Types of behaviour or conduct that meet the criteria for making a referral
  • Step-by-step guidance on how to submit a referral to Disclosure Scotland
  • What happens next, including how information is assessed and used once submitted

The session will be delivered by experienced Disclosure Scotland staff, who will guide attendees through the process and provide clarity on the relevant legislation.

A Practical and Supportive Learning Environment

The webinar is designed to be interactive, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and better understand real-world scenarios. It provides a valuable chance for organisations to strengthen their safeguarding procedures and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
