This week marks Net Zero Week, the UK’s national awareness week dedicated to raising awareness of climate action and supporting organisations on the journey towards net zero.

Across West Lothian, charities, social enterprises and community groups are already making a positive difference through projects that reduce waste, encourage active travel, improve energy efficiency, support biodiversity and strengthen local communities. Climate action isn’t just about reducing carbon emissions – it’s about creating healthier places to live, reducing costs and building more resilient communities for the future.

Our Growing Climate Confidence Report

As part of our own commitment to sustainability, Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian recently completed the Climate Confident Check-Up.

We’ve published our Growing Climate Confidence Report, which outlines our current position, highlights areas of good practice and identifies opportunities where we can continue to improve. The findings will help shape our future planning and ensure climate action is embedded across our organisation.

Five Simple Actions You Can Take This Week

Net zero doesn’t have to mean making major changes overnight. Small, practical actions can make a real difference. During Net Zero Week, why not commit to one of the following?

  • Switch off lights, computers and equipment when they’re not in use.
  • Reduce unnecessary printing and consider digital alternatives.
  • Encourage walking, cycling, car sharing or public transport where possible.
  • Review your recycling and waste practices.
  • Share your organisation’s climate action with staff, volunteers and service users.

Every action, no matter how small, contributes towards creating a greener and more sustainable West Lothian.
