Voluntary Sector Gateway West Lothian (The Gateway), in partnership with Carers Scotland and Carers of West Lothian, is hosting a free event exploring how employers can better recognise and support unpaid carers in the workplace.
Many people balance employment with caring responsibilities for a family member, friend or loved one. This event will provide an opportunity to hear about the experiences of working carers, learn about the support available locally and explore practical steps organisations can take to create a more carer-friendly workplace.
Attendees will also learn about the Carer Positive Award, which recognises employers who provide a supportive working environment for employees who are also unpaid carers.
What to expect
The event will include:
- An introduction to unpaid caring and what it means to be a carer
- An overview of the work and support provided by Carers of West Lothian
- A lived-experience perspective from an unpaid carer
- Information about the Carer Positive Award and how organisations can get involved
- An opportunity to ask questions
Tea, coffee and networking will take place from 9.15am–10.00am, with the main event running from 10.00am–11.30am.
Who should attend?
The event is particularly relevant to employers, managers and staff with responsibility for supporting people in the workplace, including third sector and social enterprise organisations across West Lothian.
Whether your organisation already supports employees with caring responsibilities or you are interested in learning where to begin, you are very welcome to attend.
