Monday 3rd – Friday 7th November 2025
Trustees’ Week is an annual celebration of the people who volunteer their time, skills and experience to oversee charities and community organisations across the country. This year’s national theme is “Good Governance” – highlighting how strong, well-supported boards help charities remain sustainable, resilient and able to adapt to change.
Across West Lothian, trustees play a vital role in leading organisations that provide support, services and opportunities for our communities. Whether supporting a village hall committee, a community development trust, a social enterprise or a national charity, trustees help guide strategy, ensure accountability and make a positive difference every day.
This week is about recognising and thanking you.
Why trustees matter
Good governance is more than policies and paperwork. It’s about:
-
Ensuring organisations stay focused on their purpose
-
Making thoughtful, informed decisions
-
Supporting staff and volunteers
-
Planning for sustainability
-
Creating a positive, inclusive board culture
Trustees play a crucial part in helping charities respond to new challenges—from funding pressures and changing community needs to digital developments and the use of AI in organisational planning.
Share your trustee story
To help celebrate Trustees’ Week, we are collecting short stories and reflections from trustees across West Lothian. If you are a trustee, we would love to hear from you.
You can take part in any of the following ways:
-
Send us a short quote or story about why you became a trustee or what the role means to you
-
Record a 10–20 second video, completing one of these sentences:
-
“I’m a trustee because…”
-
“Being a trustee helps me…”
-
“What I value most about being a trustee is…”
-
-
Share your current trustee recruitment opportunities and we will help promote them
These will be featured on our website and social media throughout the week to highlight the positive impact trustees make.
