Third sector organisations across Scotland are invited to apply for the Creative Breaks programme, which is now open for applications for the funding period of 2025-2026. Part of the Short Breaks Fund, Creative Breaks offers 12-month grants to support the development and delivery of vital short break projects and services.
The programme aims to provide respite and support for carers of adults (aged 21 and over) and young carers (those caring for children or adults), as well as the individuals they care for. These short breaks can encompass a wide array of activities, including overnight stays, day trips, and regular, shorter sessions. The fundamental goal is to enable carers to have opportunities beyond their caring responsibilities, thereby promoting their overall health and wellbeing. Importantly, these breaks should also positively impact the cared-for person and contribute to sustaining the caring relationship.
Creative Breaks funding supports activities designed for carers, for the people they care for, or for both to enjoy together. A key eligibility requirement is that projects must clearly demonstrate how their activities will provide a break from the normal routine for both the carers and the individuals they support.
A total of approximately £1.5 million is available for this funding round. Successful applicants will receive grants for a one-year period, running from October 2025 to September 2026.
Who Can Apply?
This funding opportunity is specifically for third sector (voluntary) organisations operating within Scotland. While registration as a charity is not mandatory, applicant organisations must possess a constitution that explicitly states their purposes are exclusively charitable and that their activities deliver public benefit in achieving these purposes.
For comprehensive details regarding the eligibility criteria, interested parties are encouraged to consult the full guidance document.
Organisations can now submit their applications online. The deadline for applications is Thursday 22 May 2025 at 17:00. It is important to note that late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
