Linking Lives has launched a new befriending resource designed to help communities— including churches, charities and local organisations—set up their own befriending schemes tailored to local needs.
“One-to-one befriending offers a profound way to combat loneliness. A simple weekly chat over a cup of tea can make a significant difference.”
Thanks to support from its funders, the resource is available for £300 for the first year, which includes coordinator and volunteer training, template paperwork, and ongoing support and guidance.
Befriending models available
Linking Lives offers several flexible approaches:
-
Home Visiting: regular in-person visits to build meaningful connections
-
Telephone Befriending: scheduled calls offering companionship
-
Hybrid Model: a blend of home visits and telephone befriending
“Why befriending? It offers meaningful connection and reminds someone they matter. It helps build ties with the wider community. It’s simple, yet powerful. It benefits everyone involved.”
