The Social Innovation Challenge 2025, Firstport’s flagship grant programme, is now officially open for applications—offering a major opportunity for individuals and early-stage organisations with bold ideas to tackle Scotland’s most urgent challenges.
In a change from previous years, all three finalists in this year’s challenge will receive funding:
-
Winner – £50,000
-
Two finalists – £25,000 each
The 2025 Challenge theme reflects the Scottish Government’s current priorities. Applications are invited from initiatives focused on one or more of the following areas:
-
Eradicating child poverty
-
Growing the economy through inclusive employment
-
Tackling the climate emergency
-
Ensuring sustainable public services
Who can apply?
The Challenge is open to individuals, groups, or early-stage organisations aiming to deliver their solution through a social enterprise model. Eligible structures include SCIOs, CICs, companies limited by guarantee, and others with a defined social purpose.
To begin the process, interested applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 28 June 2025. Submitting an EOI unlocks access to application templates, explainer videos, and other helpful resources to support a strong submission.
Key Dates:
-
28 June – EOI deadline
-
1 July – 28 August – Full application period (open only to those who submitted an EOI)
