Volunteering Matters Action Earth has launched its 2026 small grants programme, offering grants of up to £250 to volunteer groups across Scotland helping to improve local greenspaces and biodiversity.

The grants are available to volunteer-led projects in urban areas or near population centres that are carrying out environmental improvements through planting projects and habitat creation.

Projects could include:

  • Community gardens
  • Shared greenspaces
  • Wildflower meadows
  • Local ponds
  • Community woodlands
  • Wildlife homes and habitats

Priority will be given to volunteer groups of 20 or more people who:

  • Work in areas experiencing social and/or economic deprivation
  • Improve the health and wellbeing of their local community
  • Involve people with disabilities, health issues or those at risk of exclusion
  • Deliver significant environmental impact and/or mass participation

The fund aims to support practical community action that benefits both local people and the environment.
