Big Issue Invest (BII) is offering flexible loan finance to support social enterprises and third sector organisations across Scotland to grow, innovate and increase their social impact.
Building on the ethos of The Big Issue, BII aims to connect investment with expertise, helping organisations deliver business-focused solutions to social challenges and improve lives in communities.
BII supports a wide range of UK-based social impact organisations, including:
- Social enterprises
- Charities
- Community Interest Companies (CICs)
- Other third sector organisations operating in Scotland
However, funding is not available to:
- Sole traders
- Partnerships
- Private for-profit companies
- Unincorporated associations
- Organisations based outside the UK
BII offers flexible loan finance, alongside grant support in certain cases. For smaller loans (typically under £200,000), organisations may be eligible for a blended package, including a grant element of up to 10% to help make borrowing more affordable.
This approach is designed to support organisations at different stages, from early growth and expansion through to long-term sustainability and scaling impact.
Applications are accepted year-round, with no fixed deadlines, allowing organisations to explore funding when the time is right for them.
Organisations interested in applying can:
