Charities and social enterprises across Scotland are being invited to take part in an upcoming online session hosted by Foundation Scotland, aimed at demystifying social investment and supporting organisations at every stage of their development.
Taking place via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 16 June 2026 from 11:00am to 12:30pm, the Social Investment Hour is designed as an informal drop‑in event where participants can explore funding options, ask questions, and gain practical insights in a welcoming and supportive environment.
A Space to Explore and Learn
The session offers attendees the opportunity to connect directly with the Foundation Scotland team, who will be on hand to provide guidance and answer questions. Whether organisations are just beginning to consider social investment or are already exploring ways to scale their impact, the event aims to meet participants where they are.
Topics expected to be covered include:
- An introduction to social investment and how it differs from traditional funding
- The concept of blended finance and how it can be applied
- Practical examples of how investment can support organisational growth
- Open discussion around challenges and opportunities within the sector
Importantly, the session is structured as a drop‑in, allowing for open conversation rather than a rigid agenda, encouraging peer learning and shared experiences.
Supporting Growth Through Blended Finance
Foundation Scotland has been a key player in advancing social investment opportunities in Scotland. Since 2013, its Social Investment Fund has invested more than £15 million into organisations across the country.
A distinctive feature of the fund is its blended finance model, combining:
- 25% grant funding
- 75% loan financing
This approach helps reduce risk for organisations while ensuring affordability. Repayments are carefully tailored to each organisation’s financial position, making the model accessible and sustainable. As loans are repaid, the funds are recycled, enabling continued support for other charities and social enterprises.
Part of a Wider Learning Programme
The Social Investment Hour forms part of Foundation Scotland’s broader commitment to strengthening the third sector through ongoing support, advice, and peer learning opportunities. By offering regular sessions like this, the organisation aims to build confidence and understanding around financial tools that can drive both growth and social impact.
How to Take Part
The online session is free to attend and open to all charities and social enterprises interested in learning more about social investment.
