Community-led organisations across Scotland can apply for funding of up to £13,500 to develop projects that restore, protect and enhance their local natural environment.
Managed by Inspiring Scotland, the Neighbourhood Ecosystem Fund aims to empower communities to take an active role in nature restoration by supporting the early development of ambitious, locally led projects.
Funding can be used towards feasibility studies, evidence gathering, project planning and strategy development. Successful applicants can also access up to £1,500 in fundraising support to help secure additional investment and progress their projects towards delivery.
Projects supported by the fund may include:
- Restoring habitats and protecting local wildlife
- Improving freshwater environments and wetlands
- Creating and connecting wildlife corridors
- Supporting coastal and marine restoration
- Tackling invasive non-native species
- Enhancing green spaces and biodiversity in towns, villages and cities
Who can apply?
The fund is open to not-for-profit, community-led organisations in Scotland with an annual income of less than £200,000.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year through a two-stage process. Organisations can typically expect a response to their initial expression of interest within two to three weeks.
