The Scottish Government has launched a new national strategy, “Bringing Hope, Building Futures: Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan 2026–2031”, setting out the next phase of action to reduce child poverty and meet statutory targets by 2030.
The plan outlines a coordinated approach focused on:
- Increasing family incomes
- Improving access to employment
- Reducing the cost of living
- Providing practical support to families
It highlights the importance of collaboration across government, local authorities, health services and the third sector to deliver meaningful and lasting change.
The plan recognises the vital role of third sector organisations, noting that they are often best placed to reach families who may not engage with statutory services, offering flexible, community-based and person-centred support.
Key areas of focus within the delivery plan include:
- Whole-family support
- Income maximisation
- Employability
- Childcare
- Health and wellbeing services
The strategy also emphasises the importance of early intervention, ensuring families can access the right support at the right time to prevent challenges from escalating.
For third sector organisations, the plan creates opportunities to:
- Work in partnership with public services
- Deliver local initiatives
- Contribute to preventative approaches that improve long-term outcomes
