Firstport has opened applications for its Social Innovation Challenge (SIC), offering grant funding and tailored support to help turn innovative ideas into social enterprises that tackle some of Scotland’s biggest social and environmental challenges.
The programme is open to individuals and organisations with ideas that can deliver long-term positive impact. This includes social enterprises, unincorporated groups and community associations.
Firstport defines social innovation as:
“Finding new ways to tackle social or environmental problems, including through new products, services, business models, or novel ways of using an existing approach.”
Funding Available
The overall winner will receive:
- £30,000 in grant funding
- Tailored support to develop and deliver their idea
Two additional finalists will each receive:
- £10,000 in grant funding
- Further support and signposting opportunities
Funding can be used towards start-up and development costs, including research, staffing and essential equipment.
Priority Themes
Applications are invited for projects that address one of the following themes:
- Eradicating child poverty
- Growing the economy through inclusive employment
- Tackling the climate emergency
- Supporting sustainable public services
How to Apply
Applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest through the Firstport Community Portal. This initial stage provides access to the full application form and supporting guidance.
Key dates:
- Expression of Interest deadline: Monday 20 July 2026
- Full application deadline: 1:00pm on Friday 28 August 2026
