West Lothian Youth Action Project (WLYAP) is looking for compassionate and reliable volunteer befrienders to support young people aged 10–21 across West Lothian.

Through its INtegr8 Befriending Service, WLYAP provides one-to-one support to young people who may be experiencing isolation, low confidence or challenges in their social lives. The service aims to promote positive mental health and wellbeing by helping young people build confidence, improve self-esteem, reduce isolation and, where appropriate, provide a safe space to talk.

The INtegr8 Befriending Service offers face-to-face, remote and blended befriending, ensuring support is flexible and accessible to meet the needs of each young person.

Face-to-face sessions may include activities such as walks, conversations, board games, creative activities or outings including bowling, pottery painting, trampolining or trips to the cinema, all planned within budget and tailored to the young person’s age and interests.

What Volunteers Receive

  • Comprehensive induction training.
  • Regular support and supervision.
  • Clear policies, guidance and safeguarding procedures.
  • Flexible volunteering on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
