Active Travel Scotland Network Board Member

Forth Environment Link and Sustrans Scotland are calling for people interested encouraging people in communities across Scotland to travel actively – that is walking, wheeling, and cycling, to form a new committee to take forward the Active Travel Network Scotland. In the first instance this would be deciding on the constitution, and managing the website and liaising with Forth Environment Link to deliver quarterly webinars to members. Following this, how the network develops would be led by the committee. Basic Cycle Repair kits for community centres/hubs/spaces

Sustrans has a limited number of cycle repair kits to give to community spaces for the use of service users and members of the public.

The kits include basic tools, a track pump, patches and lubricant, as well as a promotional sticker/leaflet and record log template. Applicants must have premises that are open to the public, and be able to make the tools available to people who need them in the local area. Sustrans Statement – Active Travel Communities work

Due to Scottish Government funding reductions, unfortunately Sustrans in Scotland is required to review its delivery programme for 2023/24. Following notification from Transport Scotland that only 50% of our funding request for the Behaviour Change Programme is potentially available, Sustrans has had to make the difficult decision to propose that we step back from the delivery of a number of projects, including Activate Mentoring and the Community Active Travel Support Service. Sadly, that means the colleagues delivering this work have been placed at risk of redundancy.

Where we deliver work in partnership, we are still in dialogue with our partners about possible options. However, we also need to be realistic about the position that we are in – the Charity is not in a position to sustain work for a prolonged period when no funding is in place. This means we need to advise you that we are making plans for winding up our activities mentioned above, doing as much as we can to capture relevant learning and signposting the people we are working with to other sources of support where possible.

It is with heavy heart that we have had to make this decision; it is no reflection on the quality of the projects or on the value brought to them by members of our team. We greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from partners and stakeholders regarding the positive impact of the work delivered by our colleagues. Thank you for all that you have committed to these projects.
