West Lothian organisations interested in Community Asset Transfer (CAT) are invited to attend one of three upcoming information roadshows hosted by West Lothian Council.
Under the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015, community organisations have the opportunity to request the transfer of land or buildings from local authorities and other public bodies if they believe they can make better use of them. These transfers can provide communities with greater control over local facilities and the ability to tailor them to meet local needs.
West Lothian has already seen successful CATs, with Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust taking over the former Eastfield Training Centre in 2020. Additionally, transfers have been completed for the Low Port Centre in Linlithgow and St David House in Bathgate. As part of the ongoing Community Centre Review, a number of local groups are now considering CAT as an option for managing their local community facilities.
What to Expect at the Roadshows
The information sessions will be led by West Lothian Council officers and will cover:
- The Community Asset Transfer Policy and how it applies to local organisations
- The Application Process and what groups need to consider
- Support and guidance available for those interested in CAT
- The potential benefits of Asset Transfer for community groups
