Staff and volunteers across West Lothian are invited to benefit from complimentary First Aid for Mental Health training sessions for the 2024/25 period, organised by EnvironMentalHealth CIC, to enhance their roles.

First Aid for Mental Health provides essential information about mental health issues. The knowledge shared and the understanding developed during the course help eliminate stigma and fear, empowering participants to confidently assist someone in distress.

This training serves as an initial response to distress, with participants learning that their support is temporary until professional or suitable help is available. Attendees will gain skills in asking the right questions, listening without judgment, and guiding individuals towards appropriate resources.

Objectives of Mental Health First Aid:

  • Preserve life
  • Offer initial help to prevent the problem or crisis from escalating
  • Provide comfort to someone in distress
  • Promote the recovery of good mental health
