Advocacy Worker – 28 hours
EARS is an independent advocacy provider – our role is to make sure people’s voices are heard when there are issues in their lives. We currently have the following vacancy: Independent Advocacy Worker (Older people and stroke survivors), 28 hours per week.
Salary £23,080 pro-rata, plus mileage/travel expenses
Work undertaken for this post is based in the EARS Livingston office as well as visits to the local community, hospitals and care homes of West Lothian. Employees receive 38 days per year annual leave (pro-rata) and full access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
The major functions of the post include:
- Providing an independent advocacy service, by supporting people to have their views and wishes heard, make informed choices, and exercise their rights.
- Adhering to the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance (SIAA) Independent Advocacy Principles and Standards and Code of Best Practice.
- Working alongside local professionals (e.g. healthcare workers, social workers, care providers) and other organisations.
- Keeping up to date with people’s rights, including appropriate legislation, policy, recommendations, and guidance.
- Managing a caseload.
Candidates must have:
- Experience working with people in the community, hospital or residential setting or in the public/third sector in a paid or voluntary capacity or any background in health and social care.
- A full driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to listen and engage with people including other professionals
- An ability to work under pressure
- Effective time management, planning and organisational skills
- Computer literacy (including Outlook/Excel/Word)
Candidates should have some experience of:
- Provision of advocacy (Not necessarily as an ‘independent’ advocate)
- Report writing and record keeping
- Managing a caseload
- Effective team working
Candidates must have a basic understanding (or willingness to learn) the following:
Stigma, social-exclusion and marginalisation of people/groups and Independent Advocacy
