Exciting news! Firstport has announced the 2024 edition of the Social Innovation Challenge (SIC), aimed at tackling deep-rooted inequalities affecting health and wellbeing through innovative social enterprise solutions.

About the Social Innovation Challenge: The SIC is a grant-funding and support programme designed to address pressing social issues. The winner will receive a £50,000 grant along with tailored support, which can be used for start-up costs, research and development, salaries, rent, or purchasing essential equipment. Finalists will also receive bespoke guidance on alternative funding and support opportunities.

2024 Theme: Breaking Barriers to Better Health and Wellbeing This year’s challenge focuses on innovative solutions that address core inequalities impacting health and wellbeing in Scotland. Rather than merely delivering health or wellbeing services, projects should demonstrate tangible, long-term impacts by tackling underlying issues such as housing, education, employment, income, social connections, access to green space, and nutrition.

  • A clear proposal for a social enterprise solution
  • Direct social benefit, primarily within Scotland
  • Innovation in approach
  • Lived experience or community involvement
  • Potential for scalability or replication
  • Potential for income generation and financial sustainability
  • Environmental sustainability

Eligible Applicants:

  • Established social enterprises
  • Unincorporated groups or community associations
  • Individuals with new project ideas
