Applications welcomed from independent support
Applications are welcomed from not-for-profit organisations providing independent support in Scotland to help people use self-directed support (SDS) to have choice and control over their social care plans.
£3m per year is available through the Support in the Right Direction (SiRD) Fund for the next three years to help people use self-directed support options to organise and manage their social care.
The SiRD programme, funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Inspiring Scotland, aims to ensure that people who use social care have access to independent support, advice, and advocacy, wherever they live in Scotland.
Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport, said:
“The Scottish Government is committed to closing the gap between the promise of the SDS act and the reality of supported people across Scotland. Achieving more choice and involvement for supported people in how their social care is delivered is the most important outcome in our SDS Improvement Plan and can only be achieved in collaboration with local authorities, the third sector and everyone who has a stake in the success of SDS. Our support for a refreshed SiRD programme and placing it on to a multi-year footing is a vital pathway for delivering on that promise.”

” We know how important independent support is to help people make the most of their rights under Scotland’s SDS legislation. Previously funded groups have been a lifeline to people and carers who need social care. They help people make choices, understand decisions and provide the technical assistance needed to navigate often complex packages of social care support.We particularly encourage community and user-led groups across Scotland who know about social care and SDS to look at the funding opportunity and contact us to discuss applying.”

Applications close midday on Friday 15th September 2023.
Funding will cover the three-year period 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2027.
