Priority opportunities are:

Welcome Guides at St John’s Hospital – Monday -Friday 9am-12noon or 12noon – 3pm

Ward Visitors at St John’s Hospital – Monday – Sunday 2-4pm

Meaningful Activity volunteers in Tippethill House Hospital (Armadale) and Maple Villa in Craigshill (Male Dementia Unit) – Monday – Sunday 10am-12noon or 2-4pm

Respite and Activity Helpers at Sunndach (Children’s respite and residential home) – the available days and times are Mon-Thurs, Sat & Sun 4-6pm

Volunteer Drivers for Marie Curie Unit in St John’s Hospital – Wednesday afternoons, 12 – 4pm

At St John’s Hospital we have opportunities for  Ward Helpersopens a new window in a variety of wards including Oncologyopens a new window and Maternityopens a new window supporting short and long stay patients. The roles vary a little from ward to ward depending on the needs of the patients but key tasks focus around meal time assistance, hydration and stimulation for patients. Ward Helper is the only role at St John’s where volunteers are needed at weekend and into the evening. The times are 11.30am-1.30pm and 4.30pm-6.30pm.

If you like to chat and meet new people then the new Ward Visitoropens a new window role could be for you. Ward Visitors will go into allocated wards Monday – Sunday 2-4pm and spend quality time with our patients who find staying in hospital quite upsetting and may feel anxious or bored. Our volunteers will take part in meaningful activities and chat with patients.

There is also the opportunity to support patients visiting Out Patient Departmentsopens a new window. This role is very active and ideal for those with frequent shorter interactions.

Volunteer Welcome Guidesopens a new window support visitors to find their way around the hospital by giving directions and to feel safe and relaxed while on site. This role is ideal for those who wish to get their step count up as Welcomes Guides can rack up the steps as they support people to find their way.

Our new role of A&E Helperopens a new window Volunteer is just about to start and these volunteers will be required to support staff and patients in the A&E department within the hospital Monday – Friday 4-7pm and is ideal for anyone who is considering a career as a paramedic.

Please note at this time there are no opportunities in the children’s ward at St John’s Hospital.

At Tippethill House Hospital in Armadale and Maple Villa in Craigshill there are opportunities for Meaningful Activity Volunteersopens a new window Monday – Sunday morning and afternoons to help the patients engage in activities one to one or in groups to keep mentally and physically active. We also have opportunities for Volunteer Gardenersopens a new window to help maintain the gardens in Maple Villa and to support the staff in new gardening type meaningful activities with patients.

There are also volunteering opportunities to support children and young people with complex needs at Sunndach (Livingston) as  Children’s Respite and Residential Volunteer.opens a new window This opportunity is available 7 days a week and evenings are possible.
