Third Sector Employability

Share

Third sector employability is the work of charities, social enterprises, and community groups in helping people find employment.

These organisations provide person-centred services, expertise, and strong community connections that public and private sector providers may not. Their role is especially important in supporting individuals who may be harder to reach, helping them on their journey into work.

West Lothian Third Sector Employability Forum

The West Lothian Third Sector Employability Forum is open to local third sector organisations that provide employability services.

The Forum creates a space for dialogue and knowledge-sharing between third sector providers, local government, and national partners. Together, members collaborate to:

  • Share best practice and opportunities

  • Build stronger relationships and networks

  • Influence local and national employability policies

The Forum is currently chaired by Alan McCloskey (Interim Chair).

Volunteering and Employability

Volunteering is more than an act of service — it is also a pathway to professional growth. By taking part in volunteer opportunities, individuals gain valuable experience, strengthen transferable skills, and build networks that directly enhance employability.

Skills gained through volunteering — such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving — are highly regarded by employers across all sectors.
